One of the most important things that residents in democratic countries are asked to do as a part of their contribution to help to preserve their democracy, is to vote to decide who from among them the majority wish to authorise to govern. Any country in which it is possible to exploit that process and deny anyone of their Right to Vote, or allows anyone other than the elector to cast their vote, puts the future of that democracy at serious risk. The author is satisfied that in many practising democracies, some persons, who are entitled to vote and try to exercise that right, are still being denied the opportunity to vote and have it counted to determine who is elected.
The Jamaican Experience
As a newly independent country,Jamaicaboasts an enviable record of democratically changing government. However, flaws in the Electoral System have been exploited by the political parties. Exposure and direct involvement in the political process allowed the author to identify these weaknesses. In search of improvements, he focused on using new technologies and designed a system to replace the need for human interaction to permit persons to vote.
The result is he designed an automated electronic system that interacts directly with each person whose information is stored in its data base. It identifies them biometrically before permitting them to carry out the processes that it is programmed to perform.
