In the 1960s, Rose Tomlinson arrives in Canada from Jamaica on a three-week invitation letter from her dear friend, Cynthia. The two had been childhood friends from Jamaica and had remained close although Cynthia had moved to Canada.

Rose is happy to leave her abusive husband, although not at the cost of leaving her four children with her elderly mother, Mari, who is often sick. It is a decision that Rose struggles with, but to provide a better life for her children, common sense prevails.

The decision to stay in Canada is a tough one. Living in Canada as an “illegal”, undocumented person, Rose has to take whatever domestic work she can, in hopes of an employer assisting her to gain her landed status.

A dramatic and touching conclusion to a tale of determination, faith and fortitude.
