ABOUT THE AUTHOR

 

Dorraine Reid is an excellent educator and is considered one of the best in her field. She has taught at all levels of Jamaica’s education system. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Public Sector Management from the University of the West Indies. Her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education Administration was conferred by Western Carolina University, and she earned a Diploma in Drama in Education from the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts.

 

During her years as an educator, she has served in various capacities which include classroom manager, lecturer and resource person for drama/theatre arts for the Ministry of Education. She has also served in the capacity of secretary of the Jamaica Association of Dance and Drama Educators. Because of her outstanding work and unconventional but highly effective methodologies, she is highly sought after as keynote speaker for several primary and secondary schools’ development seminars, and has organized and implemented several training workshops for her colleagues.

 

Dorraine is a trained and active theatre practitioner who is a member of the multiple International Theatre Institute Jamaica Chapter Actor Boy award winning theatre company the Independent Actors Movement. She is also known for her strong technical skills in light, sound and stage management.

 

As an excellent event planner, extra-ordinary coordinator, meticulous researcher, and a trained and active theatre practitioner, Dorraine is equipped with the skills to create and execute unforgettable and life changing projects. She has excellent knowledge of curriculum design and writing. This she garnered from her extensive work with the Ministry of Education’s Core Curriculum Unit in the re-drafting of the National Standards Curriculum (NSC). She has also written courses for training agencies.

 

Her articles on current affairs and education have also been published in Jamaica’s two daily newspapers, the Gleaner and the Observer. Additionally, she has written various poems, written and arranged songs, as well as published academic papers on the Social Science Research Network.
